The Weekly Bite – July 2020

The past few weeks have been absolutely crazy – life has been turned around. With socially distant vacations, figuring out what work is going to look like, and trying to maintain a healthy balance of work and play, I don’t accomplish everything. The good this is – I’m human and this is totally normal!

In the midst of life happening, I don’t always get a chance to share all of my foodie adventures around the city. While recent weeks have consisted primarily of take out and patio dining, I’ve been able to explore new places and revisit some old favorites. To help share some of what I’ve been up to (along with the fiancé, Stella dog, and some good friends) I introduce to you “The Weekly Bite”. Basically this will be a weekly or every other week post to recap what’s been happening with Best Bites KC. I’ll be clear about which endeavors are sponsored (though know all thoughts are my own – we only share what we really love!) and what we’ve done for fun.

To kick things off, here’s a recap of the end of July — the first week of August should be live this weekend! Feel free to share your favorites or recommendations – it’s almost impossible to keep up with everything that is happening, and it gives me ideas for future nights out (I’m incredibly indecisive!).

For more of my content, you can check out my City Lifestyle page! I contribute articles about local spots there as an ambassador!

Hawaiian Bros (sponsored

Enjoyed some island cuisine with a sweet friend of mine! They have a new location in Lee’s Summit (plus ghost kitchens popping up in Texas) – though we visited the Overland Park location. I had visited before, but tried the macaroni salad and molokai chicken this time around. While I’m not a fan of mayo, the salad was SO GOOD. 10/10 would recommend finishing your meal with dole whip.

*Only our most recent trip was sponsored!

OP Farmer’s Market Faves

We go to the Overland Park Farmer’s Market nearly every weekend. There are definitely a handful of vendors that we frequent, but we also try to mix it up week to week. One of our favorites is Veloute – a French catering company owned by a husband and wife team. Our Saturdays almost always start with beignets and French sodas. They just recently introduced savory beignets, which are a must! Pictured is the parmesan-garlic chive, but the Lorraine is also delish.

Atomic Provisions (media event

The popular Colorado-based company Atomic Provisions finally opened their doors in Westport! The fiance and I had a chance to preview a few menu items for lunch, and we definitely understand what the hype is all about! The building houses Atomic Cowboy (bar), Fat Sully’s Pizza, Denver Biscuit Co., and Frozen Gold (ice cream – coming soon!). Some of our favorites were the giant biscuit cinnamon roll, The Franklin, and The Lola. It’s safe to say I’ll be back for more soon!

Torchy’s Tacos

Very excited to have a Torchy’s nearby after being introduced to them during a trip to Austin, Texas! Great spot for happy hour, which I took part in with another good friend! Lots of drink specials — my favorites (so far) are the paloma and flavored frozen margs. Don’t skip out on the queso, either!

Transport Brewing

One of our most frequented breweries! We love this spot in Shawnee — it’s cozy, it’s family-friendly, and it’s Stella dog friendly. Erik and I joined the mug club, so we now have our very own mugs that live at the brewery! So excited to be a part of this, and to have my new last initial!

Cupcakes A La Mode

This dessert shop just recently re-opened on the Plaza! I stopped in for a few treats to bring home. I ended up with four because I couldn’t make up my mind (see — indecisive!). My favorites were the Cinnamon French Toast and Mamma Mia (mocha buttercream)!

Sheridan’s Frozen Custard

The Sheridans near our home had customer appreciation day last week, so we grabbed a few sundaes! Erik went with chocolate + cookie dough while I had the strawberry banana. So delicious and friendly service!

Stay tuned for more “best bites”!
